Modely F1 site has a new section "detaily" modelyf1.wz.cz/index.php?dg=18&idg=2It shows how to make realistic springs and other parts. We would appreciate if any of our czech members could make a brief translation here in the forum :-)

For making of dampers with springs you will need three kinds of wire, for spring use wire of diameter 0,5mm.Coil wire around wooden skewer of diameter 2mm.You can make more springs to reserves. Then you will need isolated wire of diameter 1,6mm (wire without isolation has 0,8mm),cut piece of wire you do need for damper, then put one half of isolation off from wire, and damper is ready (body and piston). From third wire of diameter 3mm you will need only isolation, cut thin rings (about width 1mm),one ring put on end of damper body, then put the spring on damper, finish with putting second ring on end of piston. It seems like long process, but this is about 5 minutes of work. For steering wheels you will need black isolated wire of diameter 1,6mm.Coil wire around picket of diameter 9mm,then cut it up,make single steering wheels and glue them to rings with cement. Clever, but I think an all-paper model has more honesty.

Hey hawaiiyu. I also like all-paper models more. I make my springs out of paper strings.. the ones you put around christmas present, the round ones.
Diam: 1-2 mm. in whatever colour I wanna have for my springs.
However the procedure for making those are a little bit special.. I don't know how to explain, but I cut of a piece of the paper string, then I start shaping it like a spring circle for circle. at the same time I'm haping it, I superglue it so the string holds it shape and get springy..
If it's not sufficient enough... just add more glue or use a thicker type of string, works perfectly for me. Very realistic suspension both functional and real-looking.
